Lemon, Rosemary & Garlic Artisan Bread

10 Mar

So its Friday – which I realize obviously means it is not Tuesday (my normal food posting day) but I was so excited about this bread endeavor I could not wait. Oh if these images had smell-a-vision you would be in your kitchen right now whipping up this bad boy!  The recipe is so easy and well worth the patience it takes to give the dough ample time to rise.

Lemon, Rosemary & Garlic Bread:

INGREDIENTS:

3 Cups Unbleached All Purpose Flour

1 3/4 Teaspoon Salt

1/2  Teaspoon Yeast

1/4 Cup Fresh Rosemary Chopped Finely

1 1/2 Tablespoon Garlic Powder

1 Lemon Zest

1 1/2 Cups Water

INSTRUCTIONS:

Mix your ingredients together in a large bowl using a spatula until it resembles a sticky mess 🙂

Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and let sit on your counter top for 12 – 18  hours.  Note: do not refrigerate!

Do your darndest to get some sleep that night.  I know it is harder said than done when all you can do is thing about baking your aromatic crunchy bread the next day.

Once your dough has risen for the appropriate amount of time, pre-heat your oven to 450 degrees. Next place an enamel dutch oven with the lid on in the oven to pre-warm for 30 min.  In the meantime scoop out your dough onto a heavily floured surface and work it into a ball. Note: you  may want to flour your hands because the dough is pretty sticky!

Cover your ball of dough with plastic wrap and let it sit while you wait for you dutch oven to warm up completely.

When it is time to remove your pot, place it on top of the stove.  Note: use extreme caution this mother will be hot!

Place your dough in to the pot, replace the lid and pop it back in the oven for 30 min.  Once the long-awaited timer rings, remove the lid and bake for an additional 15 min and ohh la la –  all your hard work and waiting is now coming to fruition..whoohoo!

Carefully  your bread on a cooling rack until it is completely cooled through.

Enjoy!
